Duke Realty's Investment in Pure Power Helps Clayton Reach Milestone

Ameren Missouri announced today that Duke Realty has joined Pure Power on behalf of its tenants at 101 South Hanley in Clayton. Duke's commitment to support renewable energy has helped the city of Clayton reach its goal of "First Green Power Community in Missouri" and earned Duke the title of Pure Power Platinum Leader.

The Platinum Leader designation is reserved for companies, governments or other large customers who agree to offset at least three percent of their annual energy usage through Pure Power purchases. Duke Realty has committed to purchase 1,476 Pure Power blocks each year, which will help prevent more than two million pounds of the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide (CO2), from entering the atmosphere during that time. This CO2 reduction is equivalent to taking 208 cars off the road for a year.

Pure Power is Ameren Missouri’s voluntary renewable energy program and the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2008 "New Green Power Program of the Year" award winner. Pure Power offers residential customers the option to add an extra 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour to their monthly bills, offsetting up to 100 percent of their energy usage with Missouri wind power.

Commercial and industrial customers, like Duke Realty, participate by buying “blocks” of Pure Power, at an additional cost of $15 a month for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity used. Pure Power then uses those funds to purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from Green-e Energy-certified wind farms and other types of renewable energy projects. In 2010, 100 percent of the RECs purchased for Pure Power came from Missouri wind farms; the same is projected for 2011.

Pure Power is Green-e Energy Certified by the not-for-profit Center for Resource Solutions. Green-e is the leading renewable energy certification and verification program in the U.S.
