Ameren Missouri today committed $2.4 million in corporate funds to energy assistance programs to benefit its Missouri customers. The contribution is the final phase of the company’s $5 million commitment made in 2010. Since August of last year, Ameren Missouri has made a series of contributions to Dollar More program, non-profit agencies and military families. Corporate contributions are from shareholder funds and are not recovered through Ameren Missouri’s electric or natural gas rates.
“Record breaking temperatures and higher energy usage, when combined with the difficult economic conditions we are currently experiencing, can be very hard on many in the communities we serve,” said Richard Mark, senior vice president of Ameren Missouri Customer Operations. “The Dollar More program provides meaningful energy assistance to those who most need it.”
To participate in the Dollar More match, customers can simply check the Dollar More box on their utility bills. One dollar will then be added each month to the bill.
The Dollar More program helps families in need with their home energy costs, including costs for electricity, natural gas, oil and propane. By partnering with the United Way and a network of 40 human service agencies, Ameren Missouri ensures that 100 percent of all donations go to help families in need within the Ameren Missouri service area. No contributions go for administrative costs.
Since 1982, the Ameren Missouri Dollar More program has given more than $32 million to help more than 139,000 families with their energy bills. Historically, customers have given about $700,000 a year to Dollar More.
“We know that our employees and customers care about their friends and neighbors,” said Mark. “I am happy that Ameren Missouri is able to add to their generous contributions to Dollar More.”
