Magazine Ranks Ameren as Tops in St. Louis for Employing Military Veterans and Among Top 100 in Nation

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- G.I. Jobs magazine has ranked Ameren tops in St. Louis and 28th among the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers in the United States.

G.I. Jobs analyzed the benefits of more than 5,000 companies ranking in the top 100 on the strength of military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, and company policies toward National Guard and Reserve service. The Top 100 list will be featured in the magazine's December 2014 issue.

"Ameren has a long history of hiring veterans," said Mark Lindgren, vice president of Human Resources for Ameren. "Veterans bring strong skills, work ethic and leadership to our company for the benefit of our millions of customers in Missouri and Illinois. We take pride in being a military friendly employer and continue to look to former military personnel to fill key positions throughout our company."

Ameren's military recruiting efforts include nationwide events that include parades, base visits to career fairs and multiple online channels. The company also supports Ameren Military Veteran Employees (AMVE), a group that serves as a resource for military veterans, their allies and their families.

"Ameren and AMVE are passionately committed to supporting veterans, which includes everything from sending care packages to deployed troops to building wheelchair ramps for disabled veterans in Missouri and Illinois," said Darin Hendry, an Ameren supervisor and U.S. Army veteran who also leads AMVE. "Our ongoing efforts have placed Ameren among the top 100 for the sixth year in a row."

Since 2012, Ameren has hired 97 military veterans and spouses, nearly half the goal of pledging to hire 200 in five years as part of the White House's Joining Forces initiative. In addition, Ameren is a past recipient of the Secretary of Defense Freedom Award, the highest honor given by the U.S. government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserves.
