COLLINSVILLE, Ill., Nov. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Since 2008, Ameren Illinois residential and business customers have saved nearly 7 million megawatt hours of electricity and 80.8 million therms of natural gas – enough energy to power approximately 478,000 homes for a year, the company announced today.
"Our customers are seeing the benefits of investing in energy efficiency as a means for taking control of their energy usage," said Richard J. Mark, president and CEO of Ameren Illinois. "We offer a variety of programs to help our customers reduce their energy use and save money without sacrificing personal comfort."
Among the available ActOnEnergy® rebates and incentive programs are home energy audits. For $50, a trained energy advisor will perform an energy audit that includes a detailed inspection of heating and cooling equipment along with a check for adequate wall and ceiling insulation. Each homeowner will receive a custom report with a list of recommendations for improving their home's efficiency. Free compact fluorescent light bulbs, faucet aerators and reduced-flow shower heads are also provided during the audit.
Another popular energy-reduction program is Ameren Illinois' refrigerator recycling service. Customers can arrange for free pick-up of a full-size, working refrigerator or freezer and receive $50 from Ameren Illinois. More than 60,000 customers have already participated in this program – receiving rebates of nearly $3 million and reducing their electric bills by $30-$90 per year.
