Ameren Illinois Unveils Two-Year Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline Upgrade Near Belleville

BELLEVILLE, IL (OCTOBER 25, 2018) – As part of its plan to modernize the energy delivery system throughout central and southern Illinois, Ameren Illinois announced today a two-year natural gas transmission pipeline project near Belleville that will start in 2019.

Overall, the company is replacing approximately 12 miles of vintage steel gas transmission pipeline from the 1950s with new, 16-inch steel pipeline. The total investment in the project is approximately
$55 million.

  • Phase 1 – Crews will replace six miles of pipeline from Green Mount Road to Frank Scott Parkway. The project is scheduled to start in the spring of 2019.
  • Phase 2 – Set to begin in 2020, nearly six miles of pipeline from Frank Scott Parkway/Concordia Church Road northwest to Illinois Route 13 will be upgraded.

Customers in the following communities will benefit from this upgrade – Belleville, Swansea, Millstadt, Smithton, Hecker, Freeburg, New Athens, Fayetteville, St. Libory, Lenzburg, Marissa, Tilden, Coulterville and Sparta.

"With these enhancements, Ameren Illinois is taking proactive steps to prepare for the future needs of our natural gas customers. We're excited to bring these enhancements to our customers in Belleville and St. Clair County."

Safe Digging

As required by law, Ameren Illinois will call JULIE (8-1-1) prior to starting work so crews can dig safely. Customers will see paint marks and colored flags in yards and along the road to mark the location of underground utilities.
