Ameren Missouri and United Way 211 announce partnership to support active military and veterans throughout Missouri

ST. LOUIS (Nov. 12, 2018) —Ameren Missouri and United Way 2-1-1 in partnership with statewide Community Action Agencies today announced an assistance fund of $50,000 to help active military families and veterans throughout Missouri pay their utility bills.

The fund is part of Ameren Missouri’s Energy Outreach Program for utility assistance that was announced earlier this summer. The three-year plan will provide $5 million in support to nonprofits agencies to help customers in need throughout the state of Missouri with their utility payments.

“United Way 2-1-1 is proud to join with Ameren Missouri on this effort to help military families and veterans who have served and protected our country,” said Regina Greer, senior vice president of community partnerships for United Way of Greater St. Louis. “Through this fund, we hope to help many families facing hardship and encourage military families and veterans to call 2-1-1 for help.”

In addition to the $50,000 assistance fund, Ameren has a long history of supporting veterans and military families. For the tenth consecutive year, Ameren has been nationally recognized as a Military Friendly® Employer by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs®, STEM JobsSM, and Military Spouse.

"Our military veterans have been key contributors in helping carry out our mission To Power the Quality of Life," said Mark Lindgren, senior vice president, corporate communications and chief human resources officer for Ameren. "We are proud to celebrate ten years of this designation and our continued commitment to recruiting and hiring more veterans and military spouses, as well as supporting veterans and military spouses in the communities we serve."

The program starts today and runs through Dec. 12th, or until the $50,000 is accounted for. Veterans, active military members or their spouses are eligible to apply for assistance and must be without service or have a disconnect notice for their Ameren Missouri utility bill. Interested applicants should call United Way 211 at 2-1-1 or 1-800-427-4626 to find a partnering local Community Action Agency. A maximum of $250 per household is available to be used toward unpaid Ameren Missouri utility bills.
