COLLINSVILLE, IL (OCTOBER 28, 2019) – Ameren Illinois announced at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation's Sequins, Suits and Sneakers Gala that it is making a $60,000 donation to the foundation to support programs for at-risk children.
"Kids who live in poverty often see no future beyond the struggles they encounter every day," Joyner-Kersee said. "This generous grant from Ameren Illinois will enable us to provide children with quality adult leadership and the tools to discover their value and reach their full potential."
Joyner-Kersee said that the Ameren Illinois funds will be utilized to help offset the foundation's costs for coordinating after-school, athletic, summer and Winning In Life programs. The foundation employs 12 full-time staff and 12 part-time who mentor local youth and provide a safe haven for supervised recreation.
“Every day, Jackie Joyner-Kersee dares East St. Louis kids to dream big dreams,” said Richard J. Mark, chairman and president, Ameren Illinois. “That's why we're proud to support Jackie and her foundation and make a difference in the lives of young people in our region."
Ameren Illinois is a long-time partner of the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation. Since 2013, the company has donated $300,000 to the foundation through its Ameren Cares program.
