We watched with disgust the violent activities that took place at our nation’s Capitol on Jan. 6. It was a profoundly sad day in American history. We condemn all actions that result in destruction, violence, injuries and death. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the families of those who lost loved ones and those injured.
At Ameren we work with leaders of both parties to support the needs of our customers. Given that Ameren and our industry are part of our nation’s critical infrastructure, it is important to educate lawmakers, regulators and their staff on business conditions that Ameren and our industry are facing, including the complexities resulting from changing market forces, technology and our customers' energy needs. We see advocacy efforts at the state and federal levels as a critical part of forming fair and balanced policy that protects and benefits our customers, the communities we serve and our company.
While it will be important that we continue to participate in the political process by engaging with key stakeholders for the benefit of our customers, communities and company, in light of the troubling events on Jan. 6 coupled with the changes in Congress and the new Biden administration, we are suspending all federal PAC contributions for the immediate future. In advance of resuming contributions, we will carefully assess recent events and the new priorities of the Congress and the Biden administration.
