Ameren Illinois Continues Modernization of Natural Gas System in Macoupin County

COLLINSVILLE, IL (APRIL 15, 2021) – Ameren Illinois customers in Macoupin County will be the beneficiaries of a $8.7 million investment the company is making to modernize its natural gas energy delivery infrastructure.

Approximately 25 contractors, working on behalf of Ameren Illinois, started construction in early April to upgrade a 2.4-mile stretch of natural gas transmission pipeline from the company's I-55 station site to its Phillips Station in Staunton. Crews are upgrading the 1960s vintage pipeline with modern eight-inch steel pipeline along the route. Once the pipeline is completed and in-service by mid-July, it will strengthen the integrity and reliability of the company's natural gas system and support economic development for all of Macoupin County.

"We have made significant progress in the last seven years strengthening the integrity and reliability of our natural gas infrastructure across our Ameren Illinois service territory," said Richard J. Mark, Chairman and President, Ameren Illinois. "As we look to the future, we are building a robust energy delivery system that meets the needs of our customers in Macoupin County and throughout our service territory."
