Jefferson City School District finds six-figure budget savings thanks to energy efficiency upgrades
Ameren Missouri BizSavers® upgrades provide hundreds of thousands more in annual savings

ST. LOUIS (April 11, 2022) – One school district in Missouri is looking brighter and slashing energy costs thanks to the recent completion of more than three dozen energy efficiency projects. Today, thanks to incentives from Ameren Missouri’s BizSavers program, the school district will receive a check for $586,696.40 based on upgrades completed in 2021 and early 2022. Jefferson City students and educators will also benefit from additional estimated savings of more than $300,000 a year.

Offsetting the rising costs of maintaining aging school facilities, the Jefferson City School District partnered with Ameren Missouri to upgrade buildings with brighter classrooms and more efficient heating and cooling systems. In addition to the more than $300,000 annual savings in electric and operating costs, these upgrades will save the school district 3.75 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity. That’s enough energy to power more than 250 homes for a year.

“Energy costs were an area we knew our school district could improve, and working with Ameren Missouri, we found ways to make smart investments in our schools and maximize available incentives,” said Frank Underwood, director of facilities at Jefferson City School District. “The savings enable us to focus more funds where it matters most – educating our students.”

Ameren Missouri partnered with Trade Ally Navitas to complete the projects. Other school districts in Missouri have also utilized the BizSavers program to help pay for energy-efficiency upgrades. In 2021, the Parkway School District, one of the largest in the state, saved $1.6 million, and the Hazelwood School District saved $840,000. The BizSavers program facilitates projects of all sizes, helping customers save money by operating more efficiently and leveraging cash incentives to offset the initial cost of investment.

“Communities thrive when they work together, and helping schools save money is an impactful way for Ameren Missouri to support children and educators,” said Lonna Trammell, regional account executive at Ameren Missouri. “We know young people are paving the way to a brighter future, and these energy efficiency upgrades will continue to give back to Jefferson City students, faculty and staff for many years to come.”

Ameren Missouri’s BizSavers program provides cash incentives for energy efficiency upgrades such as LED lighting, high-efficiency HVAC and refrigeration systems, commercial-grade cooking equipment, motor controls/variable frequency drives, and much more. The program is one of dozens of energy-efficiency programs offered by Ameren Missouri to help residential and commercial customers manage their energy use and reduce costs.
