Ameren Missouri activates newest clean energy source
Community Solar Program celebrates more than 2,000 subscribers and looks to sunny skies ahead

ST. LOUIS (April 18, 2022) – This Earth Week, Ameren Missouri announces that its newest clean energy source, a solar facility, is now up and running. The Montgomery County Community Solar Center was constructed following the support of more than 2,000 customers who wanted to take part in clean energy generation without having to pay high up-front costs to install solar equipment on their own roofs or property, or renters who don't have a solar generation option.

“Thanks to the backing of so many Missourians, we are providing more renewable solar energy than ever before,” said Patrick Smith, vice president of economic, community and business development at Ameren Missouri. “Ameren Missouri’s Community Solar program is an easy solution for customers looking to step up their renewable energy use, support solar energy expansion and help reduce emissions economy-wide.”

Customers interested in being part of the program’s next expansion can add their name to a waiting list to be first in line for the next opportunity. When opened for sign-ups later this year, the program will be easier to participate in than ever before with all residential and small business customers now able to offset up to 100% of their energy use.

The Community Solar Program started as a pilot in 2018, offering customers the opportunity to invest in solar energy generation in their community through a shared system. The program has since been made permanent and is now generating clean energy from the Montgomery County facility and another at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis.

“The successful Community Solar program fills a need for our customers and helps get the energy we provide as clean as we can, as fast as we can, while maintaining the reliability our customers depend on,” said Mark Birk, president of Ameren Missouri. “Expanding solar generation is key to our goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
