Ameren ranked as a top utility in the nation for economic development

Company is bringing more than just energy to the region

ST. LOUIS (Sept. 14, 2022) – For the fourth year in a row, Site Selection Magazine has designated Ameren Corporation as a Top Utility in Economic Development due to the company's innovative business programs and incentives as well as support for job-creating infrastructure. This recognition includes work in Illinois and Missouri.

“Ameren Missouri’s Smart Energy Plan is spurring economic growth through job creation and retention throughout the state,” said Mark Birk, chairman and president of Ameren Missouri. “Last year alone we helped bring 3,500 new jobs to Missouri. In addition to energy-related infrastructure and clean energy jobs, our expanded economic development incentive attracts and helps many types of businesses to grow or relocate to Missouri.”

"Safe, reliable and resilient energy are among the top factors business leaders look for when scouting locations for new or expanded facilities," said Lenny Singh, chairman and president of Ameren Illinois. "For more than a decade, we've built a smarter grid and a modern natural gas system. When combined with our award-winning customer service, it has made Illinois an attractive destination for new investment by various types of businesses."

Ameren Missouri's economic development incentive has resulted in 28 announced projects in the region, bringing more than $1 billion in new capital investment to the state. In Illinois, the company's economic development incentives have resulted in 45 economic development projects in the region and created 2,600 new jobs.

Ameren remains focused on delivering distinctive long-term value to customers by effectively managing significant energy infrastructure investments over the next five years through Ameren Missouri’s Smart Energy Plan, as well as Ameren Illinois’ Modernization Action Plan, both of which were designed to make the energy grid stronger, smarter and cleaner.
