North County school district projected to save more than $190,000 after energy efficiency upgrades

Ferguson-Florissant School District completes 44 energy efficiency projects through BizSavers

ST. LOUIS (May 7, 2024) – The Ferguson-Florissant School District is on track to save more than $190,000 per year after recently completing 44 energy efficiency projects through Ameren Missouri’s BizSavers program. In addition to the annual savings in electric and operating costs, these upgrades project to save the school district 1.94 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity annually.

“Ameren Missouri worked closely with us to identify smart investments that will ultimately lower our energy expenses for many years to come,” said Terry O'Neil, assistant superintendent of operations, maintenance, and transportation at Ferguson-Florissant School District. “The upgrades we made through BizSavers are also significant for the Ferguson-Florissant students, faculty and staff as our savings can now be redirected towards education.”

BizSavers provides cash incentives for energy efficiency upgrades such as LED lighting, high efficiency HVAC and refrigeration systems, commercial-grade cooking equipment, motor controls/variable frequency drives and much more. Projects for the Ferguson-Florissant School District included brightening classrooms and replacing inefficient heating and cooling systems.

“We’re excited about how this partnership can positively impact the Ferguson-Florissant School District,” said Rich Wright, manager of energy efficiency at Ameren Missouri. “By working together, we identified several ways the school district can save energy and money. This is just one way we’re supporting the communities we serve through energy efficiency programs.”

Because of its commitment to improving energy efficiency, the Ferguson-Florissant School District was named “Energy Efficiency Champion” through Ameren Missouri’s trade ally network awards in early 2024. The Ferguson-Florissant School District also recently worked with Ameren to achieve an EPA award of $6.3 million to purchase 16 electric buses through the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean School Bus Program.
