ST. LOUIS (Jan. 23, 2025) – Ameren Missouri is nearing completion of a multiyear effort to upgrade nearly 1.3 million electric meters throughout its service territory. The program, part of the Smart Energy Plan, is wrapping up a full year ahead of schedule. The new meters give customers earlier access to modern technology and the benefits that come with it.
Smart meters provide more precise energy usage information and enable expanded rate options, allowing customers to potentially lower bills by shifting their energy use to lower-cost time periods. The technology offers added convenience by speeding up the move-in-move-out process. The new meters can also identify and self-report outages even faster, which aids in the restoration process.
“The upgraded electric meters give customers greater insight into their energy use and how they might be able to take advantage of various rate options to save some money,” said John Luth, director of the smart meter program at Ameren Missouri. “This is another example of our push to modernize the energy grid in Missouri to bring everyone next-level reliability and service."
