8 ways Ameren Missouri can help you manage energy bills this winter

Ameren Missouri offers several energy assistance programs for qualifying customers

ST. LOUIS (Jan. 28, 2025) – With most of January spent at or well below freezing, Ameren Missouri is ready to help customers with their energy bills. Recent changes to expand eligibility requirements now mean more customers can take advantage of these eight programs.

Overview of Ameren Missouri’s Energy Assistance Programs

  • Keeping Current helps make paying energy bills more affordable. It includes a monthly bill credit between $35 and $90 along with help to reduce the total amount owed.
  • Dollar More can help if customers are struggling to afford their energy bills by providing eligible households with up to $600 per calendar year.
  • New Start Energy Relief offers unhoused electric customers up to $1,000 to return to permanent housing and reestablish service.
  • Weatherization Assistance is available for qualifying homeowners and renters through weatherization improvements to their homes through local agencies. Qualifications are similar to Keeping Current, and these programs may be bundled for maximum benefit.
  • Veterans Energy Assistance is available for active-duty military, veterans and their families, who can receive up to $600 when they face challenges paying their utility bills. Eligible customers can call 211 for more information.
  • Flexible payment agreements can also be made with Ameren Missouri, and Budget Billing can help even out their monthly payments.

In 2024, Ameren Missouri added $1 million in weatherization assistance and $200,000 to its Veterans Fund. Funds are still available through United Way 211.

Overview of Missouri’s Energy Assistance Programs

Ameren Missouri’s customers can also apply to state programs, including the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) now through May 2025. The company partners with more than 800 community agencies, such as Community Action Agency of St. Louis County, Inc. (CAASTLC), to help customers apply.

  • If you qualify for LIHEAP, you will receive assistance in the form of a one-time payment of your choice for your heating or cooling bill. Qualifications are based on the number of people in your household, your household income and your energy source.
  • ECIP can help pay your energy bill when you have a disconnect notice. The amount of help you receive is based on the amount of bill with the energy provider.

How to Apply

Any customer struggling to pay their bills should contact Ameren Missouri today. Visit AmerenMissouri.com/EnergyAssistance to fill out an application and to learn more. Ameren Missouri customers can also connect with a local community action agency for assistance on their application.
