Ameren Missouri Storm Restoration Update 5 p.m. Fri., April 4

CURRENT SITUATION

  • We’re closely monitoring new potential severe weather threats that may complicate restoration efforts Friday and into the weekend. Heavy rainfall is producing standing water and flooding in some areas with wind gusts expected to reach 55-75 mph.
  • Severe weather that included destructive winds, heavy rain and tornadoes impacted the Ameren Missouri service area April 2 causing service interruptions.
  • Damage assessments identified more than 250 broken poles, which include 30 large transmission structures, mainly located in the communities of Dexter and Delta, Missouri.
  • We have successfully restored power to more than 14,000 customers since April 2.
  • Currently, approximately 2,000 customers remain without service.
  • Customers located in Delta, which sustained significant and widespread damage, may be restored by the end of day tomorrow unless weather conditions impact restoration efforts.
  • See the Ameren outage map for the latest: www.ameren.com/outagemap

FLOOD SAFETY TIPS

  • Never step into a flooded basement or area where water may still be in contact with electrical outlets, appliances or cords.
  • Don’t attempt to turn off power at the breaker box if you must stand in water to do so. Instead, call Ameren Missouri at 800.552.7583 to shut off power at the meter.
  • Keep electric tools and equipment at least 10 feet away from wet surfaces. Do not use electric yard tools if it’s raining or the ground is wet.
  • If an electrical appliance has been in contact with water, have a professional check it out before it is used. Similarly, have a qualified electrician repair any damaged electrical equipment.
  • If you see flooding around your home or business, call Ameren to have the electricity turned off before the water reaches electrical service equipment. There is also a chance that service may be proactively turned off at the request of local authorities when flood waters threaten a community.
  • Consider having ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) professionally installed on outlets. These safety devices can cut off power instantly if there’s a problem. GFCIs are recommended for outdoor outlets and outlets near wet areas of the home, such as the kitchen, bath and laundry room.

SAFETY COMES FIRST

  • Customer and crew safety is the first and foremost concern during any weather event. Stay clear of any downed power lines or poles.
  • Always assume a downed wire is live. Be careful around pools of water. Stay clear of brush, shrubs and downed trees that may hide downed power lines.
  • Customers should report any downed power lines to the Ameren Missouri customer line: 800.552.7583.
  • If your power is out, check your circuit breakers or fuses – your service outage might be the result of a household problem. Avoid any risk of electrical shock and do not enter any flooded areas.
  • Follow all recommended precautions if using a personal generator. Never use a generator inside your home, garage, crawl space, other enclosed areas, or anywhere exhaust fumes can enter enclosed spaces. Never connect a generator to your home’s circuits. Plug appliances directly into the generator.
