ST. LOUIS (Oct. 8, 2026) – Ameren Missouri and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis Inc. are partnering to encourage customers to apply for the Weatherization Assistance Program, which offers no-cost home improvements that can reduce energy use, improve safety and make homes more comfortable year-round. The program covers energy-saving improvements such as caulking, weather stripping, water heater jackets, insulation and more.

The Weatherization Assistance Program, established by the U.S. Department of Energy in 1976, provides energy-saving home improvements at no cost for qualified homeowners and renters, beginning with a free energy audit to identify the improvements that can make the greatest impact. These measures may include air sealing, installing insulation and repairing or replacing furnaces, with the goals of reducing home energy costs, improving comfort and air quality, and ensuring the health and safety of the home. Since its inception 50 years ago, over 7.4 million homes nationally, including over 188,000 here in Missouri, have been weatherized through the assistance program.

Ameren Missouri partners with several local community action agencies across the state to connect eligible customers with energy assistance funds and weatherization upgrades. Eligibility guidelines include household incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level. For example, a four-person household with a monthly income of up to $5,657 is eligible to apply. A one-person household with a monthly income of up to $2,942 may also qualify.

“Weatherization is about much more than making a home more energy efficient—it is about strengthening families and creating greater stability,” said Michael P. McMillan, President and CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. “Through our partnership with Ameren Missouri, we are helping families lower energy costs while making their homes safer, healthier and more comfortable. For seniors, families with children and households already stretching every dollar, these improvements can make a meaningful difference—not just for one season, but for years to come.”

"Ameren Missouri's weatherization awareness efforts are part of the company's ongoing outreach to connect eligible customers with available assistance," said Page Selby, manager of customer advocacy for Ameren Missouri. "The partnership between Ameren Missouri and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis through the Weatherization Assistance Program provides benefits for decades, including improving the housing stock in our communities, helping make customers' homes more comfortable and reducing future energy costs."

An Ameren Missouri customer told a weatherization advisor, “Before weatherization, I had to close all the rooms in my house and live out of one room during the winter. Despite this, my kids were freezing and I couldn’t afford my utility bills. After weatherization, my home is toasty warm, and I can pay my utility bills again.”

Ameren Missouri customers residing in the city of St. Louis can apply for weatherization assistance by contacting the Urban League at www.ulstl.com/weatherization.
