Ameren named to DiversityInc Hall of Fame
Ameren Corporation is one of only 12 companies – and the first utility – to make the Hall of Fame

ST. LOUIS (June 6, 2023) – Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE) has been inducted into the DiversityInc Hall of Fame, thanks to the utility’s long history of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts. Ameren is one of only 12 companies to join the national Hall of Fame and is the first utility company to do so.

The Hall of Fame recognizes former winners of DiversityInc’s Top 50 Companies for Diversity list dating back to 2012, as well as consistent winners of industry-specific categories. Ameren’s DEI initiatives have been ranked No. 1 on the Top Utilities list every year from 2016 to 2022. Ameren has also been included on the Top Utilities list annually since 2009.

“For decades, our team at Ameren has made an explicit commitment to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion within our company and in the hundreds of communities we serve,” said Marty Lyons, president and CEO at Ameren. “DEI is a value that we believe is foundational to our mission to power the quality of life. We are honored to be named to DiversityInc's Hall of Fame.”

Ameren also was named as a Top Company for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) for the fourth consecutive year – and, for the first time, was named as a Top Company for Supplier Diversity, Philanthropy and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). In 2022, Ameren spent approximately $1.1 billion with diverse suppliers (including women-owned, veteran-owned and minority-owned), which is a more than 20% increase over 2021.

“At Ameren, everything we do is centered around people and a passion for offering the best to our customers, communities, co-workers and shareholders,” said Gwen Mizell, senior vice president and chief sustainability, diversity and philanthropy officer at Ameren. “While we are proud of these achievements, we recognize our work is not over. We will continue to seek new and improved ways to advance DE&I at Ameren and throughout our communities.”

Some of the ongoing DEI initiatives that helped Ameren earn Hall of Fame honors include:

  • Offering several diversity training and mentoring programs.
  • Building a more diverse workforce through intentional recruiting, such as Ameren's Hiring Our Heroes program to hire veterans, and the Bright Return Program to give opportunities to mid-career professionals to return to a career after voluntarily leaving the workforce.
  • Providing employee resource groups (ERGs) for women, veterans, minority groups, sustainability initiatives, LGBTQ+ employees, people with different abilities and multi-generational focused interactions.
