Ameren Corporation is awarding Minority/Women Business Development scholarships for one leader from each of three regional diverse suppliers to attend the Minority Executive Business Program at the Tuck School at Dartmouth College. Since 1980, the program has helped diverse business executives succeed.
The scholarships are awarded to leaders from:
• BRK Electric Inc. of St. Louis, an African-American-owned company providing electrical contracting services to commercial and industrial industries.
• Donco Construction, of Edwardsville, Centralia and Eldorado, Ill., a women-owned company specializing in transmission and distribution power lines and substation construction. The company also provides contract meter reading services for utility customers.
• Miller Construction of Troy, Ill., and Vincennes, Ind., a woman-owned electrical contractor specializing in overhead power line construction and maintenance for distribution and transmission projects.
“We are happy to be awarding scholarships to these top-flight suppliers,” says Thomas R. Voss, chairman, president and CEO, Ameren. “As a major purchaser of materials and services, a conscientious effort is made to ensure that qualified diverse suppliers are encouraged and given opportunities to do business with Ameren.”
The program covers two subject areas: “Building a High Performing Minority Business” delivers tools and management perspectives to help diverse companies understand what they are doing right and how they can improve. “Growing the Minority Business to Scale” focuses on growth as a way for high potential companies to achieve their strategic objectives.
Ameren’s Supplier Diversity Team selected these recipients from suppliers providing service to Ameren’s service territory in Illinois and Missouri. Ameren leadership chose BRK, Donco Construction and Miller Construction based on the volume of business and strategic relationship with the company.
Ameren has continued to increase its spend with diverse suppliers in the last several years.
With assets of approximately $23 billion, Ameren serves 2.4 million electric customers and more than 900,000 natural gas customers in a 64,000-square-mile area of Missouri and Illinois.
