Ameren sending crews, support personnel in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy restoration efforts

Ameren companies will send more than 100 employees and release 100 contractors to south New England as the region prepares for the potential aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Operations managers in Ameren Missouri and Ameren Illinois were part of a mutual aid call Friday morning in which assistance was requested by PSE&G in New Jersey. Ameren Illinois is sending 50 linemen and support staff as well as releasing nearly 100 electric and forestry contractors, who are heading to the Northeast today. Ameren Missouri is sending more than 50 overhead linemen, safety, supervisory, fleet and logistics personnel.

“Ameren Missouri crews will conduct vehicle inspections and a safety briefing before beginning their trek early Saturday morning,” said Michael Moehn, senior vice president, Customer Operations, Ameren Missouri. “Our crews are prepared and ready to offer assistance to our colleagues in New Jersey.”

"Managing storm restoration is a core competency in our Illinois operations," said Richard J. Mark, president and CEO, Ameren Illinois. "As residents on the East Coast prepare for potential widespread power outages, we are pleased to respond to PSE&G's request for assistance."

PSE&G has asked crews and contractors to plan to stay for up to two weeks depending on the severity of the storm damage.

“Our employees and contractors will work with PSE&G officials to assess potential damage and to safely restore power to those impacted by Hurricane Sandy,” said Dennis W. Weisenborn, vice president, Safety, Ameren Corporation. “We have extensive experience in restoration efforts, however, when working in unfamiliar surroundings, on-site safety briefings are critical.”
