G.I. Jobs magazine has ranked Ameren 31st among the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers in the nation. It is the fourth straight year the company has made the distinguished list.
G.I. Jobs analyzed the benefits of more than 5,000 companies ranking the top 100 on the strength of military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, and company policies toward National Guard and Reserve service. G.I. Jobs provides tips, training and career opportunities for veterans and military personnel transitioning back into civilian life.
“We are proud to move up 27 spots in the ranking to 31st and are honored to be recognized by G.I. Jobs magazine as a Top 100 Military Friendly Employer for the fourth year in a row,” said Mark C. Lindgren, vice president of Human Resources for Ameren. “Veterans continue to bring invaluable skill sets, work ethic and leadership to our company. We have a long-standing tradition of hiring veterans and are committed to hiring veterans in the future.”
The Top 100 list will be featured in the magazine’s December 2012 issue. Kevin Ford II, a gas pipefitter and laborer for Ameren Missouri, is featured in the issue. Ford is a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves.
“Ameren is a great company that takes care of its employees,” Ford said. “When I was deployed, they paid the difference between my civilian and military salaries. Combine that with great benefits, 401(k) and education reimbursement, and I would encourage veterans to consider a career with Ameren. They’re very military friendly.”
Darren Hess, a journeyman lineman for Ameren Illinois, was in the Marine Corps for four years. He started working for Ameren Illinois in April 2011 and said the company offers him a great career opportunity.
“I love my job because there is always something different every day and it gives me the opportunity to be outside and work with my hands,” Hess said. “A lot of the guys from the military have been in management-type positions when they were leading troops. There is an opportunity with Ameren to progress to the management side of the business if you choose.”
In September, Ameren pledged to hire 200 military veterans and spouses over the next five years as part of the Joining Forces initiative. Ameren’s military recruiting efforts include nationwide events from base visits to career fairs and multiple online channels. The company also offers a military veteran employee resource group to employees.
Ameren is a past recipient of the Secretary of Defense Freedom Award, the highest honor given by the U.S. government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserves.
