The Metropolitan St. Louis Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMIMSL) awarded Ameren Missouri the 2012 Project of the Year award for effective project management in the construction of the Maryland Heights Renewable Energy Center. The first-of-its-kind energy center in Missouri began operations in the summer of 2012 and can produce enough renewable energy from landfill gas to power approximately 10,000 average Missouri homes. Upon completion, the energy center was 17 percent under budget and 108 days ahead of schedule.
Criteria for the award are based on PMIMSL’s model for excellence in project management, including effectively managing the scope, cost, schedule, quality, risk, procurement and people metrics of a project. Some of the project management best practices used by Ameren Missouri’s team included: earned value analysis, robust risk registers and extensive quality control.
“This type of validation by the Project Management Institute is a major accomplishment for Ameren Missouri and shows the level of project management maturity our dedicated and talented employees use for engineering, procurement, construction and startup project task,” said Ozzie Lomax, manager, Ameren Missouri Renewables and CTG Operations.
The Maryland Heights Renewable Energy Center now goes on to compete for the Project of the Year award against companies internationally in the summer of 2013.
