Ameren Missouri Mobilizing Personnel and Equipment in Preparation of Winter Storm
Customers Urged to Prepare, Be Safe and Use Precaution

To prepare for tomorrow’s forecasted winter storm, Ameren Missouri is mobilizing personnel, equipment and other resources to help ensure a timely response in the event of significant power outages in the company’s service area. In addition to preparing, Ameren Missouri is urging customers to be safe and use precaution in the event of outages.

“Although we can’t control the weather, Ameren Missouri is doing everything possible to prepare for potential outages that may be caused by the weather system that will move through our service territory,” said Michael Moehn, senior vice president of Ameren Missouri Customer Operations.

A key part of Ameren Missouri’s storm preparation and response is monitoring weather forecasts and tracking the direction of the storm to better identify areas that could be impacted the most. Ameren Missouri uses Quantum Weather™ – a weather monitoring and forecasting system at St. Louis University.

The ability to monitor the approaching weather system is allowing for materials and logistical resources to be sent to designated areas in advance of the storm. For example, both an Ameren Missouri Storm Trailer is being sent from Mexico, Mo. and a Mobile Command Center is being sent from St. Louis to Park Hills, Mo. The 53-foot Storm Trailer is stocked with materials such as wire, cross arms and hardware needed to repair electrical facilities.

“We understand that preparation will allow us to better respond to any possible issues and outages,” Moehn said. “Therefore, we are making sure crews have the necessary tools and equipment to restore power and meet the expectations of our customers.”

Here are preparation tips for customers: have a battery-powered radio and flashlights available, along with drinking water, canned/no-cook foods, a first aid kit and supply of any necessary medications.

Customers with outages should contact Ameren Missouri at 1.800.552.7583. Additionally, customers who see downed power lines are encouraged to stay away from them, warn others to stay way, and immediately contact Ameren Missouri.
