Ameren Missouri is warning its customers to be alert for phone calls from scam artists who threaten disconnection of electric service unless a payment is made immediately. In one incident, a customer said she received a call at her business. She said the caller said her account was delinquent and she had to pay immediately over the phone. She became suspicious and hung up.
"Our approach is to work with our customers to resolve any payment questions," said Michael Moehn, senior vice president, Customer Operations. "If they're ever approached by someone who claims they represent Ameren Missouri and they use intimidation to press for payment, they should hang up and call us at 1.800.552.7583."
