Ameren Missouri is awarding $5,000 in much-needed energy improvements to a single mother who is updating a home she recently purchased. As the grand prize winner of Ameren Missouri’s ActOnEnergy Savers contest, Susan Atkins of South St. Louis will receive a new furnace/air conditioning system with the potential to upgrade her kitchen appliances.
“I am shocked and just so excited to receive this award from Ameren Missouri,” said Susan Atkins. “My air conditioner just stopped working Wednesday night, so the timing could not be better.”
Atkins was selected as the grand prize winner from 10 finalists in Ameren Missouri’s ActOnEnergy Savers contest on Facebook. The remaining nine winners include: Tracey Bruce of Cedar Hill, Charlie Christiansen of Jefferson City, Sandra Fry of St. Peters, Maria Hearn of St. Louis, Laura Meyer of St. Louis, Laura Musler of St. Louis, Mary Pouliezos of De Soto, Jana Vos of Louisiana, and Linda Vozza of Kirksville. Ameren Missouri awarded each winner a $500 gift card to a home improvement store to use toward energy efficient improvements for their homes.
Contestants submitted a photo and brief 50-word essay highlighting their need for home energy improvements. The grand prize winner was determined after the ActOnEnergy Savers Team, consisting of Ameren Missouri energy efficiency experts, conducted in-home energy assessments.
The ActOnEnergy Savers contest is a part of the greater Ameren Missouri ActOnEnergy initiative, in which the company is investing approximately $147 million in energy efficiency programs over the next three years.
“We’re happy to host this contest to spread awareness of our programs and help improve the energy efficiency of Susan’s, and all of our winners’, homes,” said Michael Moehn, senior vice president, Ameren Missouri Customer Operations. “And it doesn’t stop here. Our ActOnEnergy programs offer all of our residential and business customers a variety of ways to better manage their energy use, so that customers can participate and reap the benefits of our programs for years to come.”
Launched in January, Ameren Missouri’s ActOnEnergy initiative offers 11 energy efficiency programs, called “Savers,” to help residential and business customers manage their energy usage. Savers programs provide customers with valuable rebates and incentives including: discounts on CFL and LED light bulbs (LightSavers); rebates for old, working refrigerators/freezers with free pick up and recycling (ApplianceSavers); and the CoolSavers program which provides rebates on programmable thermostats, AC tune ups, and up to $650 off efficient air conditioning systems – something that the grand prize winner will use to increase her savings.
