Ameren Illinois donated 300 ENERGY STAR® window air conditioners to several energy assistance agencies across its service territory to help keep customers cool and safe this summer. Each agency, which assists low-income families, has distributed the units to qualifying individuals who met Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) guidelines.
The air conditioners are ENERGY STAR® rated units that meet the strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy.
Ameren Illinois partnered with the following agencies across its service territory: Madison County Community Development, Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, East Central Illinois Community Action, Embarras River Basin, Decatur Macon County Opportunities Corporation and Catholic Urban Programs.
"The air conditioner giveaway is part of new program called Ameren Cares, which connects Ameren Illinois with the communities we serve through charitable giving and volunteering. These air conditioners will help customers who are most at risk during the severe summer temperatures such as elderly and disabled," said Richard J. Mark, president and CEO of Ameren Illinois.
