AmerenUE Closes On Acquisition of Missouri Combustion Turbine Generating Facility from NRG Energy, Inc.
AmerenUE--a utility company subsidiary of Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE)--today announced it has completed the purchase of the 640-megawatt Audrain combustion turbine generating facility located near Vandalia, Mo., from affiliates of NRG Energy, Inc.

In December 2005, AmerenUE announced the company had reached an agreement to purchase the combustion turbine generating facility from NRG for $115 million. Approvals necessary for the purchase by AmerenUE were granted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Missouri Public Service Commission and the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 has expired.

This generating facility, which is directly connected to AmerenUE's transmission system, includes 8 simple-cycle, natural gas combustion turbine units. This facility will help AmerenUE meet increased needs for generating capacity and provide additional flexibility in determining future base-load generating capacity additions. The purchase was the result of a summer 2005 competitive bidding process that attracted interest from multiple generation suppliers.

AmerenUE is a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Ameren Corporation. Ameren companies serve 2.4 million electric customers and nearly one million natural gas customers in a 64,000-square-mile area of Missouri and Illinois.
