Ameren Illinois residential and business customers have realized nearly $128 million in savings on their electric and gas bills over the last five years by taking advantage of energy efficiency rebates and incentives available through the utility’s ActOnEnergy® program.

"By leveraging the resources available through ActOnEnergy, Ameren Illinois customers are taking control of their energy usage, making changes that will make their homes more comfortable, and saving money."
Among the ActOnEnergy rebates and incentive programs, a trained energy advisor can perform an energy audit of a residential customer's home. For a fee of $50, the homeowner will receive a custom report with recommendations for improving the home’s efficiency, including information on additional ActOnEnergy discounts.
Another popular energy-reduction incentive is Ameren Illinois’ refrigerator recycling program. Customers can arrange for free pick-up of a full-size, working refrigerator or freezer and receive $50 from Ameren Illinois. A typical 10-year-old refrigerator uses twice the energy of an ENERGY STAR certified model. More than 50,000 refrigerators have been recycled in the past five years through ActOnEnergy, preventing 29,300 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), or greenhouse gas emissions, from being released into the atmosphere each year – the equivalent of 6,115 passenger-vehicle gas emissions. In addition, recycling has helped divert 32,000 metric tons of metal and other waste from landfills.
Residential customers can also receive special discounts on ENERGY STAR certified Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs, programmable thermostats, high efficiency water heaters and other energy efficient products. Ameren Illinois also offers incentives to assist small business customers with improving the efficiency of their business.
Since the launch of ActOnEnergy, Ameren Illinois has helped customers achieve nearly 3.5 million
megawatt hours of electric savings and 35.3 million therms of gas savings, equivalent to the energy required to power 396,253 homes for one year.
