Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE) has named Bill J. Prebil vice president, Regional Operations. In his new position, he is responsible for the performance of Ameren's Illinois natural gas and electric distribution operations and field- related services in three of Ameren's seven Illinois divisions.

Prebil was previously employed by Central Illinois Light Company (CILCO, now doing business as AmerenCILCO) in progressively responsible positions for 35 years prior to Ameren's 2003 acquisition of that company.

Prebil began his employment in 1969 as a rural meter reader in CILCO's Commercial Office. He later transferred to the Central Line Office as a groundsman, and within a month he had joined the Lineman Apprenticeship program. He progressed through the four apprentice levels, and in 1976, he became a journeyman lineman.

Prebil was promoted to management as a residential consultant in the Construction Services Department in September 1980. Over the next 17 years, he gained experience and increasing responsibility in several areas of CILCO's operations, serving the company successively as a commercial-industrial consultant, industrial consultant, planner/analyst, Forestry field unit supervisor, Electric Distribution field unit supervisor, Electric Construction field unit supervisor and general supervisor, Electric Construction. He was promoted to manager, Peoria Electric Construction & Services, in 1994 and transferred to the Peoria Division Management Department. In 1997, Prebil was promoted to director, Peoria Division Operations and transferred to the Northern District-Electric.

As a result of Ameren's acquisition and integration of CILCO, Prebil became manager, Electric Operations for AmerenCILCO in February 2003, and he was promoted to director, Energy Delivery Operations for AmerenCILCO in October 2004. Prebil then became director, Regional Operations, in February 2005, in conjunction with the creation of the Ameren Illinois organization.

Prebil, age 55, earned a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Illinois-Springfield in 1980. He lives in Peoria, Ill.

With assets of more than $17 billion, Ameren, through its subsidiaries, serves 2.3 million electric and more than 900,000 natural gas customers in a 64,000- square-mile area of Illinois and Missouri.
