Ameren Missouri Customers Can Expect Lower Rates for Natural Gas

Ameren Missouri residential customers will pay lower rates for natural gas under a new Purchased Gas Adjustment (PGA) that has been approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC). The lower rates are the result of lower wholesale natural gas supply costs.

The new rate of $0.66 per one hundred cubic-feet (Ccf) of natural gas becomes effective Nov. 1. It represents an approximately 7 percent decrease in the PGA rate.

Under the new PGA, an average residential customer in certain of our service areas (Columbia, Jefferson City, Mexico, Wentzville, Cape Girardeau and Mable Hill) will see a decrease of approximately $2.60 per month. An average residential customer in the Rolla system (Rolla, Salem and Owensville) will see a decrease of approximately $2.25 per month.

The PGA reflects the wholesale costs of natural gas, plus the cost of transporting gas to the company’s system. Wholesale gas prices aren’t regulated and an increase or decrease is based on market conditions of supply and demand. Because the wholesale costs change daily – while the PGA doesn’t – the PGA also includes an adjustment to compensate for under- or over-collection of actual costs in previous periods. Ameren Missouri passes the PGA costs to customers on a dollar-for-dollar basis without markup or profit and is allowed to make up to four changes to the PGA per year and no more than one change during any two consecutive months.

Ameren Missouri reminds customers that they can reduce their natural gas usage by installing more efficient natural gas equipment. Visit ActOnEnergy.com for details and information about rebates for natural gas furnaces and boilers.
