Ameren Illinois Donation Will Help 500 Households Beat the Heat
Air conditioners will be distributed through area energy assistance agencies

Ameren Illinois is donating 500 window air conditioners to eight energy assistance agencies across its service territory to help keep customers cool and safe this summer. Each agency, which assists low-income families, veterans and the elderly, will distribute the units to qualifying individuals who meet Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) guidelines.

“The safety of our customers is important to Ameren Illinois.  We feel that it is especially important to help individuals and families who are most at risk for exposure to extreme summer temperatures,” said Richard J. Mark, President of Ameren Illinois.

Ameren Illinois will partner with the following agencies across its service territory: Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, Two Rivers Regional Council of Public Officials in Quincy, Madison County Community Development in Edwardsville, Decatur Macon County Opportunities Council, Champaign County Regional Planning Commission, Catholic Urban Programs in Belleville, Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House in East St. Louis, and St. Clair County Intergovernmental Grants Department.

Ameren Illinois is making the donation through its Ameren Cares program, an initiative that connects Ameren Illinois with the communities it serves through charitable giving and volunteering.  Since the inception of Ameren Cares in 2013, Ameren Illinois has donated 1,200 air conditioners units to low-income customers.

The air conditioners are ENERGY STAR® rated units that meet the strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy.
