Ameren Illinois is contributing $10,000 to the Trees for Tomorrow campaign to help the City of Quincy replace trees that were destroyed by a mid-July storm.
On July 13, straight-line winds in excess of 70 mph destroyed or damaged more than 1,000 trees throughout Quincy. The City of Quincy, Quincy Park District and Trees for Tomorrow launched the campaign to replace the trees soon thereafter.
“It was an incredible sight watching Ameren Illinois crews working in the July heat and working around all the debris to restore power for the residents and business owners in Quincy. Your dedication was much appreciated,” said Mayor Kyle Moore. “Today, Ameren Illinois is helping our community with a $10,000 donation to assist us in replanting nearly 30 trees that were lost in the storm. Trees are an important part of Quincy’s rich heritage and this generous donation will help us rebuild that heritage.”
“With support from organizations like Ameren Illinois, grass-roots organizations like ours can really make a difference in our communities, said Anne St. John, founder of Trees for Tomorrow. “We are lucky to live in such a wonderful place.”
Ameren Illinois is making the donation through its Ameren Cares program. A key focus of Ameren Cares program is to partner with non-profit organizations like Trees for Tomorrow to improve the quality of life in Ameren Illinois’ service territory through charitable giving and volunteering.
“This contribution will help the City of Quincy replace trees in its local parks as well as help restore the canopy of trees that have historically lined and given Quincy streets character for more than a century,” said Richard J. Mark, President of Ameren Illinois. “We will work with the City, park district and Trees for Tomorrow to plant the right tree in the right place to avoid potential tree, power line and buried natural gas pipeline conflicts.”
