Ameren to Present Details of Auction Proposal to Illinois House of Representatives Electric Utilities Oversight Committee
Executives representing the Illinois-based operating companies of Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE) will speak to legislators at the Illinois House of Representatives Electric Utilities Oversight Committee hearings this morning in Springfield, IL. Those hearings begin at 9 a.m. (Central Time).

This session is one of a series conducted by the committee to review the transition of Illinois electric utilities to fully competitive power markets on Jan. 1, 2007.

Ameren's Illinois operating utilities---AmerenCILCO, AmerenCIPS and AmerenIP\- on Feb. 28 filed a request asking the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) to evaluate and approve a highly transparent, competitive approach for supplying electricity to these companies' more than one million Illinois electric customers following the Jan., 1, 2007 expiration of the rate freeze, established by Illinois law.

At today's hearing, executives will discuss, among other topics, Ameren's proposed auction process, the structure and methodology to translate the supply auction outcome into retail rates, consumer protections and the potential impact on retail electric rates. A slide presentation outlining the company's comments is available on Ameren's Web site at www.ameren.com. This presentation will be posted in the Investors section of the site under presentations and is provided in a .pdf format.

With assets of $17 billion, Ameren serves 2.3 million electric customers and 900,000 natural gas customers in a 64,000-square-mile area of Missouri and Illinois.
