AmerenUE officials today joined with representatives from St. Louis Community College to celebrate $130,000 in scholarship funding the company is providing each year to help cover the tuition, books and fees of 10 students in the engineering technologies program at the college’s Florissant Valley campus in Ferguson.
“Businesses rely on St. Louis Community College for training the future work force, and many of those businesses – like Ameren, are finding ways to partner with the college to further guarantee the strength and growth of successful programs for STLCC students,” says Zelema Harris, SLTCC chancellor. “We thank Ameren for investing in the future of our students, which in turn represents an investment in the future of the local and regional economy.”

It is especially important for our company to offer support for students interested in pursuing degrees in technical fields. We need a well-educated work force to continue to provide safe, reliable energy to this region and to ensure the continued success of our region’s economy.”
“This scholarship program is aimed at highly motivated and safety-conscious individuals who want to become technicians,” says Ashok, Agrawal, dean of Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Technology at Florissant Valley. “While Ameren does not guarantee future employment through this program, recipients will receive consideration because this program will give them a strong grounding in such areas as system relay and substation work.”
The scholarship program provides $1,000 per semester for tuition, books and other fees. Once awarded, the scholarship is renewable each semester, up to four semesters, provided that students continue to meet the established criteria. Up to 10 scholarships are available each year.
