KDHX 88.1 FM Joins AmerenUE’S Pure Power Program

Community Radio Station’s Commitment Same as Removing

752,352 Tons of Carbon Dioxide Annually

ST. LOUIS, MO., Nov. 10, 2008—AmerenUE announced today that KDHX 88.1 FM has agreed to purchase renewable energy credits (RECs) through the company’s Pure Power program.

KDHX’s 100 percent commitment to this voluntary program will help prevent approximately 341 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), a leading greenhouse gas, from entering the atmosphere each year. This is equal to the CO2 reduction provided by more than 78 acres of forest storing carbon for one year or by taking almost 72 cars off the road for a year.

Pure Power is AmerenUE’s voluntary renewable energy program. It gives residential customers the option to add an extra 1.5 cents/kilowatthour to their monthly bills, offsetting 100 percent of their energy usage with clean, renewable energy. Commercial and industrial customers, like KDHX, participate by buying “blocks” of Pure Power, paying $15 a month for each 1,000 kilowatthours used. Pure Power funds are then used to purchase renewable energy certificates from qualified wind farms.

KDHX’s purchase of 34 blocks of Pure Power makes it a Pure Power LEADER—a designation reserved for companies, governments or other large users of electricity who agree to offset at least 4 percent of their energy usage through Pure Power purchases.

“We’re thrilled to be the first radio station in St. Louis to take advantage of the Pure Power program and offset all of our power usage with renewable energy,” said Nico Leone, Co-Executive Director of KDHX.

For more information about Pure Power, go to www.ameren.com/purepower. AmerenUE’s Pure Power program is Green-e Certified by the not-for-profit Center for Resource Solutions. Green-e is the leading renewable energy certification and verification program in the U.S.

AmerenUE is a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Ameren Corporation.  The Ameren companies serve 2.4 million electric customers and nearly one million natural gas customers in a 64,000-square-mile area of Missouri and Illinois.

KDHX Community Media is a non-profit media arts and education organization broadcasting on 88.1 FM and online at KDHX.org.  The organization is also the cable access provider for the City of St. Louis on KDHX TV 21+22 as well as the local presenter for the 48 Hour Film Project and other media arts programs.
