The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center Joins AmerenUE’s Pure Power® Program
Center’s Commitment Equals Removing 95 Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide Annually*

AmerenUE’s Pure Power announced today that The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center will continue to support the development of new, renewable energy sources via the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) through the Pure Power program.

The Danforth Plant Science Center’s commitment to this voluntary program will help prevent approximately 95 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), a leading greenhouse gas, from entering the atmosphere each year. This is equal to the CO2 emissions generated by the consumption of 200 barrels of oil.

Pure Power is UE’s voluntary renewable energy program and the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2008 New Green Power Program of the Year Award Winner. Pure Power gives residential customers the option to add an extra 1.5 cents/kilowatt-hour to their monthly bills, offsetting up to 100 percent of their energy usage with clean, renewable energy. Commercial and industrial customers, like The Danforth Plant Science Center, participate by buying “blocks” of Pure Power, paying an additional $15 a month for each 1,000 kilowatt-hours used. Pure Power funds are then used to purchase RECs from Green-e® Energy-Certified wind farms and other types of renewable energy projects.

The Danforth Plant Science Center’s purchase of 60 blocks of Pure Power per year makes it a UE Pure Power Leader- Silver - a designation reserved for companies, governments or other large users of electricity who agree offset at least 1% percent of their energy usage through Pure Power purchases.
“The Danforth Center is committed to preserving and renewing our environment,” said Roger Beachy, president. “The Pure Power program is an excellent way for us to have an impact by reducing our carbon footprint and encouraging the production of clean energy.”
