AmerenUE Crews Restore Power to all but 8,000 of the 52,000 Customers Affected by Yesterday's Storm
Nearly All Remaining Customersto be Restored Today

STORM UPDATE: 8:30 a.m.

AmerenUE reports that within the first 12 hours after yesterday’s severe storm struck the St. Louis metropolitan area, it restored service to about 85 percent of the nearly 52,000 customers who lost power due to the storm. UE expects to restore service today to nearly all of the 8,000 customers still without power, although some customers in the hardest hit or certain isolated areas may not have their power back on until Thursday.

UE has 800 employees and contractors working to restore service, including 500 line workers from throughout the company’s service area.

The outages were caused by lightning and strong winds toppling and uprooting trees. Damage and related power outages were widespread across the St. Louis metropolitan area, with the heaviest concentration of damage and outages in the Ladue, Clayton and University City area, as well as north St. Louis County.

As crews work to restore service to the remaining customers affected by the storm, UE reminds the public to remain vigilant to potentially hazardous situations.

Stay clear of downed power lines and always call UE at 1-800-552-7583 or 911 if you see downed lines. Assume all downed power lines are energized, and stay clear of brush, shrubs and downed trees that may hide downed lines.

UE officials also urge customers to look in on neighbors, especially seniors and those with medical conditions. Checking on these people during outages will help keep them safe and comfortable.
Additional storm safety information is available in the Storm Center on Ameren’s Web site—the first choice on the left navigation bar (www.ameren.com). Customers can also use the “My Electric Outage” feature to check the status of the power at their home from remote locations, either through a conventional computer or through a mobile device.

UE provides electricity and natural gas to 1.2 million customers in Missouri. UE’s parent, Ameren Corporation, through its affiliates, serves 2.4 million electric and nearly 1 million natural gas customers across 64,000 square miles of Missouri and Illinois.
