AmerenUE and The National Theatre for Children Team Up to Teach Kids About Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation

AmerenUE and The National Theatre for Children will bring the live theatrical show “Boomerang Jack and the Top Secret Energy Caper" to 200 schools across Missouri during the 2009-2010 school year. Any school in AmerenUE’s 57-county Missouri service territory can request the show, which is offered to educators free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

The 25-minute program delivers important messages of energy conservation and renewable energy as it entertains children in grades K-6. Educators are encouraged to call The National Theatre for Children at 1-800-858-3999, ext. 1, to request a performance.

“Boomerang Jack and the Top Secret Energy Caper” is performed by professional actors from The National Theatre for Children. Based in Minneapolis, Minn., The National Theatre for Children specializes in writing and performing educational programs for children nationwide using simple sets and audience participation.

In this year’s play, Boomerang Jack’s good friend, super spy Agent Double-O Negative, has been attacked by a sleep ray. Before he dozes off completely, the secret agent tells Jack that the criminal mastermind Mr. X plans on stealing all of the world’s resources. Without resources, no one will be able to make electricity! Hot on the trail of Mr. X, Jack encounters the mad scientist, Dr. Shuzensachs. Together they learn about renewable resources and how we can all use energy efficiently.

The play also comes with a full suite of educational materials, including grade-appropriate workbooks and teacher guides. These materials reinforce the messages of “Boomerang Jack and the Top Secret Energy Caper.”

“We are pleased to present this fun, exciting production about energy conservation and renewable energy,” says AmerenUE President and Chief Executive Officer Warner Baxter. “Our kids are one of our most influential audiences.”

Two troupes of actors will travel across AmerenUE’s Missouri service territory to bring “Boomerang Jack and the Top Secret Energy Caper” to as many Missouri communities as possible. AmerenUE will offer the program again next spring, starting Jan. 19, 2010.

AmerenUE is a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Ameren Corporation. Ameren, through its subsidiaries, serves 2.4 million electric customers and nearly one million natural gas customers in a 64,000-square-mile area of Missouri and Illinois.
