Ameren Corporation senior executives today proudly accept the Arts and Education Council’s St. Louis Art Award for “Corporate Support of the Arts.” The award will be given tonight at a reception dinner beginning at 7 p.m. at the Chase Park Plaza.
Presented since 1992, the St. Louis Arts Award is the preeminent award honoring individuals and organizations who achieve a legacy of artistic excellence, and businesses that enrich St. Louis’ arts and cultural community.
Giving back is a vital component of Ameren’s corporate culture. Since 1944, when the Ameren Charitable Trust was established, more than $62 million (an average of $5 million annually) has been awarded by the company to thousands of community groups and institutions, including dozens of St. Louis area arts and cultural organizations such as the Saint Louis Art Museum, Black Rep, Dance St. Louis, the Arts and Education Council, The Muny and COCA, among many others.
In 2009, Ameren employees donated more than $117,000 to the Arts and Education Council through the company’s “Work Place Giving” event.
“We are honored to be recipients of this prestigious award,” said Thomas R. Voss, Ameren President and CEO. “The company is committed to supporting the arts and investing in organizations that enhance the quality of life in the communities we serve.”
With assets of over $24 billion, Ameren serves approximately 2.4 million electric customers and nearly one million natural gas customers in a 64,000 square mile area of Missouri and Illinois. Ameren owns a diverse mix of electric generating plants strategically located in its Midwest market with a generating capacity of more than 16,300 megawatts.
