PEORIA, Ill., Nov. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Nonprofits now can earn extra green while helping make Illinois greener by joining the new Ameren Illinois Act On Energy® Refrigerator Recycling Referrals program.
When an Ameren Illinois residential electricity customer recycles a spare refrigerator or freezer through the Act On Energy program, the participating nonprofit organization of the customer's choice will receive $10.
"We have designed the Refrigerator Recycling Referrals program to help nonprofits easily earn extra dollars, while giving our customers an added incentive to become more energy efficient," said Stan Ogden, Ameren Illinois vice president of Customer Service & Public Relations.
"This program also is good for the environment. Getting these old refrigerators out of garages and basements and off the grid will help reduce power plant emissions because customers will be using less electricity," Ogden said.
In addition to helping a nonprofit, electricity customers will receive $35 for each refrigerator or freezer they turn in for recycling and they can save $100 to $160 a year on their individual electricity bills. Customers may recycle up to two units. Refrigerators and freezers must be secondary units, manufactured before 2001 and are still working.
All nonprofits in the Ameren Illinois service territory are eligible to participate in the Refrigerator Recycling Referrals program. Nonprofits may enroll by calling 1-866-838-6918, visiting ActOnEnergy.com/fundraiser or sending an e-mail to fundraiser@ameren.com to receive program materials and their group identification number. There is no cost to participate.
The Refrigerator Recycling Referrals program for nonprofits will run through Jan. 31, 2011.
