Becoming an e-SMART Kid is Elementary With Ameren Illinois Educational Initiative
Kids ActOnEnergy.com for Children, Parents and Teachers


Utilizing the expanded Ameren Illinois Kids Act On Energy website (KidsActOnEnergy.com), youngsters in the second through eighth grades are learning about energy efficiency in terms and through examples they can easily understand.

KidsActOnEnergy.com provides are wide variety of games, videos, energy facts and more for children. There are educational materials, teaching guides and tests for teachers, as well as valuable information that will help parents and grandparents.

“We have expanded and improved KidsActOnEnergy.com to help children better develop the knowledge and skills to use energy wisely in order to save money and become good stewards of the environment, as well as learn how to be safe around electricity and natural gas. These are lessons that will last a lifetime,” said Stan Ogden, Ameren Illinois vice president of Customer Service & Public Relations.

One of the most popular features is the new Energy Saver Calculator. This tool allows kids as well as parents to decide which energy saving actions they want to take. With each action, they discover how much money they will save and examples of how those savings might be used.

Another fun and educational feature is the Stop the Guzzler game. To keep the Guzzler from taking over, kids must find and correct common household energy wasters that range from dripping faucets to TVs that are entertaining an empty room.

In addition to energy efficiency lessons, KidsActOnEnergy.com makes safety fun. On one page, a mysterious pirate with a magical spyglass teaches about the importance of calling “811” before digging.

Electric Universe teaches about electricity through games, activities and lessons, while Energy Underground uses similar tools to instruct youngsters about natural gas safety.
Teachers can take advantage of free classroom educational materials with teaching guides that support educational standards and can be easily integrated into regular curricula. Materials are designed for students in grades 2 through 8.
