Ameren Missouri Donates Surplus Vehicle To Hi-Pointe Center, Inc.
Organization will use the vehicle to deliver food to needy

Ameren Missouri today donated a surplus vehicle from the company’s motor transportation fleet to the Hi-Pointe Center, Inc. The vehicle is a 1997 Chevrolet Van and will be used to distribute donated food to senior citizens, disabled individuals and low income families.

“This donation is part of a long-standing Ameren Missouri Policy of donating surplus vehicles and other equipment to non-profit organizations and communities when it is still useable,” says Gene Unverfehrt, manager of Ameren Missouri’s Mackenzie Division. “At a time when federal budgets are under considerable stress, we’re pleased to provide this vehicle to the Hi-Pointe Center, where we know it will be put to good use for the benefit of local residents.”

Jon Fitzgerald, Executive Director of Hi-Pointe Center, Inc. says, “Reliable transportation is of the utmost importance to our daily operations, and this donation will further allow us to serve those in need. Ameren Missouri has proven to be a valuable partner to area nonprofit organizations and we hope that through our efforts, we all are making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.”

Scott Ogilvie represents the 24th ward, the community Hi-Pointe also serves. "As the 24th ward Alderman, I am pleased to see this kind of philanthropy taking place for the overall good of our community. By donating in-kind, functioning items to organizations like Hi-Pointe, Ameren Missouri has taken recycling to another level," says Ogilvie.

In 2011, Ameren Missouri has donated more than $81,000 in surplus vehicles to following recipients:

City of Hallsville
City of Rolla
Cub Scout Pack 220
St. Louis Zoo
Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity
