Ameren Missouri’s Pure Power announced today that REPCO, a St. Louis-based marketing, sales and communications company, has agreed to support the development of new green power sources through participation in the Pure Power program.
REPCO has earned the Ameren Missouri Pure Power Platinum Leader title, and through its commitment will help prevent approximately 200,655 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) from entering the atmosphere each year. This is the environmental equivalent of taking approximately 18 cars off the road for a year.
Pure Power is Ameren Missouri’s voluntary renewable energy program and the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2008 New Green Power Program of the Year Award Winner. Residential customers have the option to add an extra 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour to their monthly utility bill, offsetting up to 100 percent of their energy usage with clean, renewable energy. Commercial and industrial customers, like REPCO, participate by buying “blocks” of Pure Power at an additional $15 a month for every 1,000 kilowatt-hour "block" used. Pure Power purchases Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from Green-e Energy-Certified wind farms and other types of renewable energy projects and then credits the RECs to customers. In both 2009 and 2010, 100 percent of the RECs Pure Power bought came from Missouri wind farms. This is projected to be true again in 2011.
REPCO's purchase of 132 blocks of clean energy per year makes it a Pure Power Platinum Leader--a designation reserved for companies, governments or other large users of electricity who agree to offset at least four percent of their energy usage through Pure Power purchases.
