Meeting Illinois Learning Standards is a key feature of the powerful electrical and natural gas safety lessons provided by the Ameren Illinois Kids ActOnEnergy® initiative.
The Web-based initiative – KidsActOnEnergy.com – provides free educational materials, teaching guides and tests for teachers, as well as valuable information that will help parents. More than 125,000 students are benefitting from this program.
“Through Kids ActOnEnergy, Illinois elementary and middle school teachers can meet Illinois Learning Standards, prepare and engage students, accommodate multiple learning styles, save on lesson planning time and budget dollars while addressing important energy-related lessons,” said Stan Ogden, Ameren Illinois vice president of Customer Service and Public Relations.
Teachers throughout downstate Illinois have taken advantage of the free classroom educational materials with teaching guides. These materials support educational standards and are easily integrated into regular curricula. There are a variety of materials designed for students in grades K through 8.
“KidsActOnEnergy.com can help children develop the knowledge needed not only to be safe around electricity and natural gas, but to use energy wisely in order to save money and become good stewards of the environment. These are lessons that will last a lifetime,” said Ogden.
Of course, youngsters and their parents can access KidsActOnEnergy.com from any computer. Of special interest to children are the online educational games. These include “Eco-Racer,” a game that lets children design and drive a renewable energy powered race car; “The Voltanator” and “Find the Hidden Dangers” electricity safety games, and “The Pipeline Game” that teaches about natural gas safety. Parents will enjoy helping their children learn important energy lessons by playing the games with their youngsters.
While on KidsActOnEnergy.com, parents will find links to the Ameren Illinois ActOnEnergy website (ActOnEnergy.com) where they can learn about financial incentives and rebates. In addition to the website, residential customers can obtain more information by calling 1-866-838-6918 or sending an e-mail to: ActOnEnergyResidential@ameren.com.
