Mt. Pulaski Products Takes Leadership Role On Major Energy Efficiency Initiatives
ActOnEnergy Incentives Help Company Slash Energy Usage

Today, the Ameren Illinois ActOnEnergy® program announced Mt. Pulaski Products has slashed its energy usage by an amount equal to the electricity used by 125 residential customers in a year.

“Mt. Pulaski Products is an energy efficiency leader,” said Cheryl A. Miller, ActOnEnergy business program manager. “This environmentally responsible company has been exceptionally creative in its approach to reducing electrical usage.”

Based in Mt. Pulaski, the company produces Maizorb® and Toxi-Dri® corn cob absorbents and corn cob abrasives that are U.S. Department of Agriculture BioPreferredSM products. The company also custom blends products for individual customers.

“We are pleased that Mt. Pulaski Products decided to team with ActOnEnergy in order to achieve their energy efficiency goals. To date, they have received nearly $58,000 in ActOnEnergy incentives and are approved for another $50,000,” Miller said.

“The ActOnEnergy business initiatives serve as an important driver of economic growth and development. That is good news for Mt. Pulaski Products employees, the community, customers and the entire state,” Miller said.

“We acknowledge with gratitude the incentive program offered by Ameren Illinois. Their support staff was instrumental in Mt. Pulaski Products’ education, application, execution and ultimate success in the ActOnEnergy Program,” said Marsha Fernandes, president of Mt. Pulaski Products LLC. “The preparatory work completed by Charles Dumire, Operations manager, and Mike Herold, Maintenance supervisor, allowed our vision to become more energy efficient a reality, and the financial impact on our bottom line, of course, is a bonus.”

“Further, quoting Mike, ‘The installations of the variable frequency drives have only slightly tapped into the benefits this new manufacturing equipment can provide.’ ”

“Since 1951 our company has been conscientiously aware of our environment and the importance of its sustainability as we continue to provide bio-degradable, organic ground corncobs into a myriad of world-wide markets.” “The ActOnEnergy Program and our implementation of this energy-saving equipment enabled Mt. Pulaski Products to continue ‘going green’ economically while safeguarding natural resources.”

“As the United States of America collectively strives to become energy independent, Mt. Pulaski Products recognizes that even though there is no panacea, it is our duty to be stewards of our resources. The ActOnEnergy Program facilitates that common goal.”

Miller said a total of $18 million in ActOnEnergy incentives is available for business energy efficiency projects completed between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012. Applications are now being accepted.

Mt. Pulaski Products has used its ActOnEnergy incentives for variable frequency drive projects. The company was established more than 50 years ago and currently employs 51 people.

Since ActOnEnergy was launched in 2008, the amount of annual business incentive dollars has grown from $3 million to $18 million. The energy efficiency program is funded through a small charge, Rider EDR, on customer electric bills and Rider GER on customer natural gas bills. This charge is mandated by state law.
