ST. LOUIS, Nov. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ameren announced today that it has earned the 2017 Military Friendly® Employers designation by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs®, STEM JobsSM, and Military Spouse. Ameren has a long history of employing and supporting military veterans and their families. This marks the eighth consecutive year Ameren has received the Military Friendly® Employers designation.
"We are honored to be recognized as a military-friendly employer for the eighth year in row, and we appreciate the many contributions our veterans have made to our country and company," said Mark Lindgren, Ameren senior vice president, corporate communications, and chief human resources officer. "Veterans are ideal co-workers because they bring transferable skills, a strong work ethic and a collaborative mindset to the workplace. We are committed to recruiting and hiring more veterans to fill key positions at Ameren."
Since 2012, Ameren has hired 172 military veterans and spouses. The company also sponsors a dedicated employee group, which serves as a resource for military veterans and their families, and provides generous benefits to support members and their families during times of deployment. During the past year, the Ameren Military-Veteran Employees (AMVE) group participated in recruitment efforts and veteran employment fairs; organized care-package drives for those deployed; hosted diversity festivals and events to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by military personnel; sponsored Honor Flights; built wheelchair ramps at the homes of injured and infirmed veterans; and adopted military families during the holidays.
"Thanks to the efforts of our AMVE group, everyone at Ameren is given a chance to support our veterans and their families in a meaningful, personal way," said Harvey Neverman, an Ameren manager and U.S. Air Force veteran who also leads AMVE. "We are humbled by the sacrifices made by our veterans at home and abroad, and we are proud to offer our continued support."
"Companies that have earned the 2017 Military Friendly® Employer designation have exceptionally strong hiring programs and meaningful jobs for transitioning service members, veterans and spouses," said Daniel Nichols, a Navy Reserve veteran and chief product officer at Victory Media. "Our Military Friendly® Employers have moved beyond answering 'why hire military?' They are truly aligning their jobs and recruiting efforts with Military Friendly® Schools to translate military competencies into civilian careers."
Ameren will be showcased along with other 2017 Military Friendly® Employers in the December issue of G.I. Jobs® Magazine, the January 2017 issue of Military Spouse Magazine, and on MilitaryFriendly.com.

About Military Friendly® Employers
The Military Friendly® Employers list is created each year based on extensive research using public data sources for thousands of federal contractors nationwide, input of military employees, and responses to the proprietary, data-driven Military Friendly® Employers survey from participating companies. The survey questions, methodology, criteria and weightings were developed by Victory Media with the assistance of an independent research firm and an advisory council of educators and employers. Data calculations and tabulations were independently evaluated for completeness and accuracy by EY. The survey is administered for free and is open to companies that have hired veterans in the past 12 months. Criteria for consideration can be found at: militaryfriendly.com.
