HERRIN, IL (Jan. 22, 2026) — Ameren Illinois and the City of Herrin are partnering to transition the community's municipal fleet to electric vehicles (EVs). Through its Community Engagement and Consultation (CEC) Program, Ameren Illinois is providing $50,000 along with technical support and strategic planning assistance to help Herrin develop and implement a comprehensive electrification transportation plan.
The CEC Program, a key component of Ameren Illinois' Beneficial Electrification Plan, provides support to municipalities and community-based organizations pursuing EV infrastructure. Ameren is playing a key role in empowering local municipalities to overcome barriers to EV adoption and contribute to Illinois' broader sustainability objectives, and advance the clean energy transition in downstate Illinois.

The city recently took a significant step forward in achievement of its electrification goals by adding a heavy-duty electric truck to its fleet. The electric truck is being used for municipal operations, replacing a traditional gas-powered vehicle. In addition to significantly reducing fuel consumption and maintenance expenses, Herrin is demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term cost savings for taxpayers.
